Project | Blackford Dolphin |
The semi-submersible drilling rig Blackford Dolphin was upgraded to increase the maximum drilling depth. The rig was fitted with additional outboard columns (2 per side), as well as additional columns with sponsors and deck extensions to either end of its length. She was also fitted with a completely new drilling installation and power plant. This megaproject started as a small refurbishment, but turned out to be a complete new build project. Blackford Dolphin, the former Ocean Liberator, was built in 1974, has been refurbished and had her life span extended by 20 years during this project. The upgraded drilling unit has a drilling depth capability that has been increased from 600 ft to 7,000 ft water depth, enabling her to operate in deep water environments.
